Beau Biden will not seek his father’s open senate seat

Oh, no say it ain’t so Beau!  Beau Biden announced today that he will not run for the US senate seat in Delaware vacated by his father Joe Biden and currently be held by Joe Biden’s hand picked seat warmer Edward Kaufman.

Beau Biden gave a noble sounding reason for not running: 

“I have a duty to fulfill as attorney general — and the immediate need to focus on a case of great consequence. And that is what I must do,” Beau Biden said in a statement. “Therefore I cannot and will not run for the United States Senate in 2010. I will run for reelection as attorney general.”

However, Michelle Malkin sees a rather less than noble reason for young Biden’s decision: certain defeat by Republicans.

Biden’s decision kind of leaves Democrats in a lurch and opens the door to the possibility that Republicans could take both Obama’s and Biden’s old senate seats.
