Rasmussen has released its poll on the Massachusetts special election for Ted Kennedy’s seat. Rasmussen finds that Republican Scott Brown is trailing Democrat Martha Coakley only by 9 points.

State Attorney General Martha Coakley holds a nine-point lead over her Republican rival, state Senator Scott Brown, in Massachusetts’ special U.S. Senate election to fill the seat of the late Edward M. Kennedy.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state finds Coakley ahead of Brown 50% to 41%. One percent (1%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.
It is pretty astounding that a Republican would be that close in a race for Ted Kennedy’s old seat. It is believed that a low turn out will help Scott close the gap further. If Massachusetts conservatives and Republicans are as fired up as they were here in New Jersey, then an upset may be in the making.
Granted another Republican senator at this stage of the game is too late to directly stop the horrors of health care reform (you all know Dingy Harry is going to use Reconciliation). However, a win by Brown in the very blue state of Massachusetts would send one heck of a warning to moderate Democrats. Also, the race is set for January 19. A Brown win would make one heck of an anniversary present for Obama ‘s first year in office.
