If you were expecting major Republican ideas, then you are wrong. Obama simply picked the little things that would not drastically affect the full horror of the Democrat proposal.
From CNN: Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama extended a bipartisan olive branch to GOP leaders in the health care debate Tuesday, stating in a letter that he is willing to consider several of their ideas in a compromise plan.
Specifically, the president said he may be willing to:
– commit $50 million to fund state initiatives designed to reduce medical malpractice costs;
– allow undercover investigations of health care providers receiving Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal programs;
– boost Medicaid reimbursements to doctors in certain states; and
– include language in the final bill ensuring certain high-deductible health plans can be offered in the health exchange.
Clearly Obama is simply adding this stuff to call it “bipartisan” and to say the worked with Republicans, but there is nothing here that addresses the two major concerns Republicans have with the bill; control and cost. ObamaCare still costs too much and still makes dictates on private insurance companies and mandates for individuals.
These few items Obama has embraced are done only for appearance sake. He wants to appear like he tried to work with Republicans and they rejected him, thus feeding into the whole “obstructionist” meme that is being crafted by the Democrats.
Once again, the whole idea behind that sham summit was to get Republicans involve so that they could then be turned into scapegoats.
