In a stunning display of desperation, Speaker Nancy Pelosi dug herself deeper into the Enhanced Interrogation Techniques debate and possibly signed her political death warrant with the accusation that the CIA are liars.With blatant spinning and parsing like I have never seen before, Pelosi, gave a very nervous and stuttering performance defending herself against very strong allegations that she has been lying.
This is now the third version Nancy is throwing out there to see if it sticks. With her own staffer demanding more answers, Nancy is feeling the heat. Perhaps being cornered with her lies, is what led her to accuse the CIA of lying to Congress and thus sign her the death certificate to her political career. She even calls for the CIA to release details of the briefing. I suspect that Pelosi is counting on this information being too sensitive to national security to be released. Otherwise, she would be a fool to stick her neck out that far.
The CIA will no doubt release or leak, details of the 2002 briefing. I expect to see the minutes of that briefing showing what exactly was told to Pelosi at that time. With each release, Pelosi will spin a new version of her story and end up looking like a bigger liar than she does now.
None of this would be happening if Pelosi and the Democrats had not decided to classify waterboarding as torture in order to score political points against the Bush Administration. I believe that they were only concerned with short term results of electing a Democratic president and adding numbers to Congress. They must have counted on the election of Obama to smooth over all the hurt feelings. Instead they have members of the far left clamoring to see Bush and Cheney in orange jumpers and are willing to throw her under the bus to get it.
